Steve York began his creative woodworking three years ago in Arizona with only one class. The technique used to create the bowl and the vase is segmented woodturning using a lathe, patience, and a lot of math. The exotic woods used in this bowl are walnut, maple, and padauk. These woods are natural and have not been stained to alter their color.
Inspired by his wife’s quilting patterns, this bowl is a “bargello” pattern. Its meaning originated from a series of chains found in the Bargello palace in Florence, Italy. The appearance of movement within the patchwork adds to the bowl’s dimension.
